Cooktop Cover Story
Have you ever needed more serving space in your kitchen? Well if you’re like me the answer is yes. Whether you are preparing a family dinner, baking for a church social, or entertaining having additional serving space can simplify the food preparation process.
Hi I’m Joyce Miller, inventor of the Cooktop Cover. Years ago I was preparing for a “girls” party at my home. I wanted to serve a nice buffet dinner to my friends as part of the evening’s event. As I looked at my granite counter top, I saw my cooktop was right in the middle of the long countertop I wanted to use for the buffet style dinner. I thought that if I could cover my gas cooktop with something, I would have the long buffet serving space I desired. But how to cover my cooktop?
I summoned my husband Bill, who is an engineer, and I presented him with my dilemma. Bill made a few measurements, and went off to his office to do what engineers do. The next day Bill presented me with what he called a “cooktop cover“. It was just as I had described it to him, black and disappeared into the background.
When Bill handed it to me I realized it was very light. Bill said it weighed eight pounds. It had a black satin finish and fit perfectly over my cooktop. I thanked Bill and sent him on his way.
I loaded my new cooktop cover with my serving chafing dishes and began to layout my various plates and utensils in preparation for my Thursday evening party.
The night of the party, sixteen women arrived at my home eager to unwind, talk and of course eat and drink. When I announced dinner was served, it didn’t take long before one of the women noticed my new cooktop cover. She began to point it out to the other women and soon a buzz swept through this group of women. What is it? Where did you get it? How can I get one? I want two, one for home and one for the beach house!
Much to my surprise these women insisted that I disclose my source for this remarkable serving device. My answer of course was that my husband Bill made it for me. Can Bill make any more? When can he make them? I have a party coming up and I definitely need a cooktop cover! Where’s Bill?
Well, the conversation was exciting to see how my friends had reacted to my solution for adding more serving space. By the end of the evening Bill had agreed to make ten more Cooktop Covers!
